Health & Safety Policy 2018

It is the objective of I-Kew Service Ltd to ensure that it fulfils its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, as well as other relevant legislation.

The Production Director of I-Kew services has this to say concerning the issue of safety:

“It is my responsibility to ensure that the Health & Safety Policy is implemented. In recognition that injury, damage and loss can be avoided, I have the responsibility of coordinating the overall effectiveness of health and safety within the Business.”

The Business will promote and encourage safe working attitudes by active participation from all employees, and it accepts responsibility for the health and safety of persons other than its own employees who may be affected by its work activities.

The Business will ensure that sufficient funds are available to provide

  • Places of work that are safe and without risks to health
  • Safe systems of work
  • Plant and machinery that is safe and without risks to health
  • Information, instruction, training and supervision
  • Reasonable welfare facilities

As a business, we will also ensure that we:

  • Reduce our environmental impacts in such a way as to make a positive contribution to sustainable development and meet our Corporate Social Responsibility requirements.
  • Establish effective HSE management systems including clearly defined roles, responsibilities and organisation
  • Establish systems for actively engaging and consulting with employees in the delivery of the aims and objectives of this policy
  • Develop, monitor and regularly review HSE performance using indicators relevant to the business.
  • Ensure systems are in place to comply with all HSE regulatory requirements applicable to our business

This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed on an annual basis unless statutory regulations require an immediate amendment.
Every duty holder will actively apply this Policy, its procedures and systems and contribute to its continual development.
All employees should, in addition to fulfilling their own specific responsibilities, conduct themselves in a way that enhances their own safety and that of others.

Monitoring the Company Policy

All management has a responsibility to ensure that the application of this Policy is monitored as part of their daily management of contracts.

On a twelve-monthly basis, this Policy will be reviewed and discussed at a Business Management Meeting.

Independent monitoring of this Policy will be undertaken by the Business’s Health and Safety Consultants. They will advise both site and senior management on compliance with statutory requirements and safe working practices.

Employee Consultation

Relevant risk assessments will be completed, and actions arising out of those assessments will be implemented. (Risk assessments are reviewed yearly or earlier if working habits or conditions change.)

Joint co-operation is an essential element in the effective management of health and safety, and employees have a positive contribution to make in maintaining and improving standards. In the first instance, suggestions should be made through the employee’s immediate supervisor for further discussion with senior management.

Staff and subcontractors are given necessary health and safety induction and provided with appropriate training (including working at heights, asbestos awareness and electrical safety) and personal protective equipment. We will ensure that suitable arrangements are in place to cover employees engaged in work remote from the main company site.

The Business will consult as appropriate with all employees, or representatives elected in accordance with the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations. In either case, the consultation will be in regard to:

  • The introduction of any measures at the workplace that may substantially affect the health and safety of those employees.
  • On the arrangements for appointing Health and Safety Assistance and competent persons to implement any procedures for serious and imminent danger
  • Any health and safety information required to be provided
  • The planning and organising of health and safety training
  • The health and safety implications of the introduction of new technologies into the workplace
